Foundation Comparison
I will tell y'all before I begin that I have been a Covergirl user since I first started using makeup about 5 years ago. It was the makeup my mom used so she just had us use it. Since she bought it I didn't complain or have a chance to try new kinds. One day I went into Ulta with my sister and she mentioned some people using NYX. I didn't give any thought to it until about six months ago when I started getting into makeup. I spent a lot of time thinking about making the switch and just never found the time to sit down and do it. Recently I sat down and got into the nitty gritty of trying to find the right shade in the right kind of foundation for me. I took the foundation test on NYX's website and started with the results from that. It matched me to the Total Control Drop Foundation in the shade natural. I didn't want to just assume that natural was the right shade for me so I did some looking. I was also a little off put at the price because I thought foureen dollars for a foundation was pretty steep but then I realized through talk and comparison it isn't that expensive. I went to Ulta and wasn't sure what shade and the people didn't seem super eager to help and I wanted to try the Stay Matte Not Flat foundation and thought Dillard's might have some so I went there. I found a super helpful sales woman that helped me match the Total Drop since they didn't have the Stay Matte. She gave me a little sample to take home and try and that is where this review/comparison comes from.
I'll start with the Covergirl Clean Matte foundation in the shade creamy natural. All the time I was using it I thought it was the best foundation ever because I had never had anything to compare it to. I knew that the shade was a little dark for me, but the shade lighter was lighter than I needed so I kept what my mo said was the right shade. Before NYX the product had the perfect coverage and I never had a problem with it, but after NYX is a different story. After it felt heavy and thick on my face. It felt like I had put on a whole lot when I had just put on foundation. The coverage was still good but I could tell it was way darker than I needed. It didn't feel as nice on my skin as I remembered. If you're looking for a full coverage foundation that can hide almost anything this could be the foundation for you if you can find it in the perfect shade for you.
NYX's foundation is more of a light to medium coverage depending on how much you put on at a time. I used enough to get somewhere between the two because some of my blemishes like red acne marks are still visible but covered enough to not be obvious. It feels light on the skin while giving good coverage and stays on through the day. A little goes a long way with this foundation so I don't feel bad for spending fourteen dollars on it now. The shade vanilla is what I use and it almost looks lighter than I need but when it goes on it is just the shade for me. If you're looking for a lightweight long lasting foundation this one may be for you.
I don't hate Covergirl for the foundation, it was just ignorance on my part that kept me using the wrong foundation for what I want. I want a lightweight, not complete coverage because everyone has blemishes so why hide them completely behind makeup. Both are great foundations at great prices but they are on opposite ends of the spectrum so it isn't fair to hate one for doing its job. The moral of the story is research what type of foundation does what and experiment to find out if one is right for you. Stay beautiful lovelies.
